This webinar will introduce the advantages of creating shear connections with fully-threaded screws, including applications in mass timber and CLT construction. The theory behind inclined screw connections will be explained through a brief overview of some of the research conducted in the USA, Canada and Europe.  Finally, design procedures calibrated to NDS 2018 will be analyzed against recent lab testing in North America.

The development of high-strength, fully threaded self-tapping screws presents new possibilities for modern timber connections design. Fully threaded screws are optimized for axial loading; by inclining these screws  toward the shear plane, we engage the axial capacities of the screws, creating connections that are stronger and stiffer than screws loaded laterally. This webinar will introduce the advantages of creating shear connections with inclined fully threaded screws, including applications in mass timber and CLT construction.
